The Application period for those impacted by the December 2021 tornado is ongoing. Please read application requirements listed below.

In order to apply to become a Habitat for Humanity Pennyrile Region homeowner you must meet the following requirements:

HAVE A SUBSTANTIAL NEED FOR HOUSING

Your current living situation must be:

  • Substandard– problems with heat, water, electricity, structure.

  • Insufficient space– lacking enough bedrooms for the number of people in the household.

  • Dangerous– located in unsafe or unsanitary living conditions.

  • Inadequate– not suited for a family member who has a limitation.

  • You cannot currently own a home.

HAVE THE ABILITY TO PAY

  • Your income source(s) must be consistent and show an ability to pay an affordable mortgage, utilities, and home maintenance costs.

  • Your credit report and current debts must be satisfactory.

  • Your debt to income ratio must be below 41% (including estimates for deferred student loan repayment).

  • You must be 18 months removed from any bankruptcy discharge/dismissal and have good credit standing since.

BE WILLING TO PARTNER WITH HABITAT

  • Be willing to complete the application on time with all the requested information (including, but not limited to, income history and ongoing paystub and bank statement submittal).

  • Agree to complete sweat equity hours, attend homeownership workshops, agree to a home visit by Habitat staff/volunteers, and have open communication with Habitat about changes in your income/housing situation.

  • Exhibit readiness for the responsibilities of owning and maintaining a home and yard.

  • Be willing to accept the location and design of Habitat homes.

  • Understand that any new home construction process comes with unavoidable changes in plans and schedules.

Future Habitat homebuyers participate in a lengthy process that includes educational workshops and time volunteering to help build their home and the homes of other Habitat families.
